Dupyutren’s disease

  • This is a fibrous retraction of the hand palm which develops tough nodules and becomes a kind of cord that can easily be felt under the skin; it may cause a finger to curl (often the small and/or ring finger).
  • Tendons are not concerned; this only has to do with a disease of the hand palmar fibers.
  • The early forms can benefit from a recent surgical procedure called « needle therapy » under local anesthesia whose purpose is to section (with a small needle through the skin) the cord that causes the finger to curl.
  • The more severe forms require an incision of the hand palm to remove the nodules and cords which allows to prevent recurrence of the disease.
